Last weeks College Football picks....
Let's get to the games. The first game that I chose was a mid-major team that I thought would play inspired football and try to be ranked in the top 25 for the first time ever. Oh, how wrong I was. I chose Georgia Southern (-7) vs. the University of Louisiana-Monroe (but I didn't know that LSU came to play at ULM and ULM went to Death Valley). Georgia Southern , who came in with a 7-1 record with a huge win over Appalachian State (when they were ranked 25th) and simply played an awful, awful football game, never having the lead and even missing a 26 yard field goal. A 26 yard field goal! unbelievable.
On a quick side note, I do like ULM's jerseys. I really like the fact that they have teeth on the shoulder accents with the military appreciation uniform so that it looks like a fighter jet.
Game number 2: I really liked the way Western Michigan played against Central Michigan last week, blowing them out and winning by 25 points against the Chippewas, beating them 35-10. So, I thought I'd roll the dice with the Broncs, and take them against the Ohio Bobcats on Wednesday night. So, I took Western Michigan (-1). Again, I was wrong. It went downhill quickly for the Broncos, falling behind 45-0 and having to play catch-up for the remainder of the game (but, if it's any solace, they did score the 14 of the last 28 points of the game and still got blown out, 59-14. Ugh. Bad start to the week.
Rolling right along with the losses this week, I then decided that Kansas played well enough against a sub-par TCU team that I would take the Jayhawks and the 14.5 points at home against an Iowa State team that has looked like Jekyl and Hyde. Again, I was wrong. The bad Kansas team came out (not the one who played well against TCU OR the one who scored 55 points against Rutgers), and the very, very good Iowa State team came to play in Lawrence, the one who beat up West Virginia at home a couple weeks ago. Iowa State jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, and didn't look back again, cruising easily to a 27-3 win, and dropping me to 0-3 for the week. Thanks, Cyclones!
And, now, as one of my uncles would say, we get to the "dogshit on ice cream" section, the two games that I won! I took West Virginia (+1) in one of the greatest college football games in the last five years, and I took Iowa (+2.5), who covered by a half a point against Purdue. But, enough about last week. Let's move onto this week!
Games I like:
Maryland (+1.5) vs. Indiana
Michigan State (+3.5) vs. Ohio State
Middle Tennessee State (-13.5) vs. UTEP
Michigan (-40) vs. Rutgers
USF (+14) vs. Cincinnati
