Tuesday Thoughts

The New NCAA Redshirt Rule - My thoughts.....

I think the New NCAA redshirt rule for football sets a dangerous precedent in all of college sports.  I think you're going to see many college athletes play three games and then decide, "You know what, this team stinks.  I'm going to go to another school to see if it's better there."

Then, when they go to the next school, they'll say the same thing.  Now I know the eligibility doesn't reset, and I know that some student-athletes will keep track of how much eligibility they have left at their current school, but I can see some student-athletes transferring from place to place until they find a team that they think can win it all and then latch onto the "bandwagon" and reap the rewards.  I think four games is way too many for the NCAA to allow the athletes to play, as well.  Four games is a third of a season.  Can I eat a third of a pizza and return it to my local pizza place because "it didn't have enough pepperoni on it"?

No, I can't.  Can I eat three bowls of Lucky Charms cereal and then return it to the supermarket because "it didn't have enough marshmallows" in it?

I guess I could, but then I'd be the crazy person in the supermarket.  I think this is ridiculous.  Four games?  I could see two, but four is crazy.  By the fourth or fifth game, athletes can tell which way their season is headed, and some will definitely decide to move along and go where the grass is greener.
